Class Title: Self Care and Yarn: A Dynamic Duo
Teacher Name: Rebecca Harmon
Class Length: 1 hours
Class Fee: $15.00
Class Day/Time: Friday 11:00AM to Noon
Class Description:
This is an uplifting and positive session that will share widely-accepted practices for stress reduction in the context of yarn/fiber arts. We will explore the benefits of solitary practice, as well as group engagement and discuss research on fiber arts as helpful when dealing with anxiety, depression, chronic pain as well as findings that people who regularly engage in knitting/crocheting experience less loneliness, isolation and have an improved sense of well-being. Participants will learn tools to incorporate knitting/crochet (etc.) into their self-care routine and to build their own “resilience kit” in yarn or fabric for those times when “life happens
As part of the presentation, teacher will showcase several projects of hers that represent application of the self-care with yarn principles she is sharing. At the end of the session, participants will be able to: 1) explain the overall health benefits of knitting/crocheting, 2) evaluate current self-care practices, and identify their areas of need, 3) share their ideas for creating a resilience project/kit, 4) develop a plan for improving their yarn engagement (solitary PLUS group knitting/crocheting), and 5) advocate for creative self-care in their communities.
