Experience Surface Crochet in this comprehensive class. Learn how to embellish and enhance a completed crochet project with Surface Crochet. This class will inspire you to experiment with texture, color, and design. With surface crochet anything is possible from abstract to realistic, including portraits! Whether you’re a curious beginner or a seasoned crocheter, this class offers an immersive exploration of Surface Crochet.
During class, you’ll learn the concept of applied Surface Crochet and the flexibility of using various yarn gauges and fiber materials. Use a crochet hook (no needles!) for the class project to learn the fundamental stitches and practice adding three-dimensional texture to crochet. Develop the skills and confidence through in-class exercises and inspiring demonstrations. Add subtle, sophisticated texture (like a brocade fabric) or make bold, statement pieces!
Surface Crochet is a versatile, add-on skill. After class, you will have the experience and knowledge to use Surface Crochet in other projects like amigurumi, garments and home decor. Discover Surface Crochet and unleash your creativity!

Supplies Needed: Students will need to bring:
- A piece of crochet fabric to practice on. Minimum 5″ x 5″ square, one solid light color will be the easiest to work on. Sample is made with 4 Medium weight yarn, light tan color and measures 5″x7″
- Yarn. Small amounts (approx 10gms) of contrasting yarn to apply. Sample uses 4 colors, green, orange, blue and yellow
- Hook. A crochet hook in the right size for your yarn. Sample made with US J (6mm) hook
Materials Fee: (payable to teacher) Optional class project kit available for purchase from the instructor
Homework: Make a single crochet swatch measuring about 5 inches wide by 7 inches high
