Now that Registration is Open and you are making your class selections, we can start our Holiday preparations. There are trees to decorate, presents to wrap, ribbons to tie,

candles to light, parties to attend, baking to do and taking time for an egg nog or two! (or three). Ann made this Kusudama flower after three egg nogs, not bad eh?  Before we begin our holiday preparations, we’d like to offer 2 book reviews and giveaways.

Knit, Crochet, Fiber:

Swonchos by Barbara Condon and Kathleen England, proud owners of Glenfiddich Wool and exhibitors at the Festival.

Barbara and Kathleen established Glenfiddich Wool in 2002, their partnership began with a mutual love of fiber and knitting. Their book, Swonchos includes patterns for the child to the adult. What is a Swoncho? It’s a cross between a sweater and a poncho, the perfect garment for any body size, shape or height and can be dressed up or worn casually. Adding various necklines, sleeve lengths and adding texture and color accents will make this the favorite garment in your closet! With a bonus section about their flock of sheep – Border Leicesters, it is well written, easy to follow with clear patterns.

The book, edited by Linda Voss Plummer, offers a helpful terminology section in the front as well as a link for some videos for those frustrating times when patterns are just not enough. Linda also provided a reminder about gauge and the importance of taking the time to avoid disasters. Linda is teaching 5 classes this year, from a Ready, Set, Go class to Finishing and even one for your Dog! (No you may not bring your dog, they have a tough time holding the needles). We are pleased to offer a copy of the book for one lucky winner.  See details below to enter the sweepstakes. Barbara and Kathleen will have copies available for sale at the Festival in booth 901.

Scrap Happy Sewing

18 Easy Sewing projects for DIY gifts and toys from fabric remnants

by Kim Kruzich

This colorful book features 18 great projects combining sewing, patchwork, applique’ and embroidery designed to use up leftover scrap fabrics! There are easy to follow instructions, full size templates from baby bibs to home decor. Suitable for beginners to advanced sewers, this book has retro style children’s toys, clever organizers, small quilts, pillows, a “keep tidy shoe mat”, and a cute foxy clothespin holder. (I’d like to get the author to come organize my home!) Many of the projects shown can be made in no time at all, making them perfect gifts too. We have one copy of the book for one lucky winner, see details below on how to enter the sweepstakes. If the content in the book appeals to you, make sure to check out the Classes we are offering at the Festival featuring sewing, quilting, patchwork, applique, embroidery and more.

Sponsor Highlight:

We are grateful each year to have the support of our sponsors. They make it possible for us to continue to offer door prizes, gifts for attendees and much more. We have devoted this section of the newsletter to highlight a different sponsor each time so that you can get to know them.

Skacel:

The Movie Room is a new feature this year at the Festival that Skacel has sponsored. We start the weekend off with a Kick Off Luncheon with StevenBe. If time is tight and you can’t squeeze in one more class, stop in to watch some DIY and instructional videos covering everything from knit, crochet, fiber, sewing, quilting and more!  Also in the movie room, Skacel has special events planned with Franklin Habit and Michelle Hunter as well as offering interactive activities in the Maker Space. You can find out more about these under the Special Events section.

Make sure to visit the Skacel website to shop all of their yarns, needles, patterns, roving and more!

Thank you Karin Skacel, for your continued support of the Festival, we can’t wait to see you on site this year.
