Class Description:
In this class the student will learn quilting basics including measuring and cutting, using rotary cutter, how to read a pattern, making half square triangles (3 methods); 1/4 inch seam allowance (how to check for accuracy); assembling blocks.
Students will cut and sew a Friendship Star block. We will discuss variations on the block; briefly discuss color theory, show ways to use the block to make a quilt.
I will demonstrate how to do basic quilting and make the block into a pillow. There will be leftover material, enough for 2 additional blocks if students wish to exchange blocks.
No quilting experience is necessary – basic sewing knowledge is helpful.
Pfaff sewing machines will be provided for you to use in class by Thornton & Co

Registration necessary, class size limited 14
Supplies Needed:
- One fat quarter for main color
- 2 fat quarters for background
- 1 fat quarter for backing for pillow
- neutral thread
- Fat quarter is 18″ x 22″
- fusible cotton batting for pillow, 15 inch square
- Basic sewing supplies including scissors, thread, pins and needles
- Quilting supplies including cutting mat, rotary cutter and quilting ruler(s) – Can borrow teacher’s supplies if you do not own quilting supplies

4 fat quarters and fusible batting – $18
Fusible batting (15″ square) – $6
Beginners Quilting Kit – $15.95 (rotary cutter, ruler, pins, instruction book, marking pencil)
