The Afterthought Heel adds life to your socks; not only with its jazzy appearance and contrasting color, but also by providing the opportunity to save your socks if the unthinkable happens. Because the heel is worked last, you can easily replace it if it should ever wear out. You will learn how to work the amazing afterthought heel and can get started on your own pair of eye-catching Falling Dominoes socks. With their cascading spirals of traveling stitches, Falling Dominoes socks are knitted from the cuﬀ to the toe.
Registration necessary, class size limited to 20
For class, you will need 50g of fingering weight sock yarn (main color) and 20g contrasting color fingering weight sock yarn (heel) for swatching, and a small amount of a third contrasting color smooth fingering weight waste yarn, two US size 1.5 (2.5 mm) 24-inch circular needles, and tapestry needle. Falling Dominoes socks pattern calls for Dream Color to Life SMOOSHY (420-yd full skein (MC), 100-yd mini skein (CC), 85% superwash fine merino, 15% nylon): 1 skein No Limit/ Charged Cherry, contrasting color smooth fingering weight waste yarn, two US size 1.5 (2.5 mm) 24-inch circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge, cable needle, and tapestry needle.
Materials Fee: $6.00, payable to instructor in class (includes pattern and Falling Dominoes sock pattern and handout)
Homework: To prepare for working the afterthought heel, you will need to work a small swatch. With main color swatching yarn, cast on 64 stitches, join in the round being careful not to twist, and work k1p1 ribbing for 5 rounds. Work Stockinette st (knit all stitches) for at least 10 rounds. The more rounds you work, the easier it will be to work the heel.
