Warm Up America and Knit the Bridge Lounge

Spend a little time or a lot of time just hanging out with your friends knitting or crocheting a square for the Warm Up America Foundation or pieces for the Knit the Bridge project: www.knitthebridge.wordpress.com.  Instructors from Pat Catan’s and the Fiber Arts Guild will be on hand to assist you. Pat Catan’s and many of our other sponsors will provide yarn and needles for your use. The squares, knitted or crocheted, are assembled and distributed to families in need, or after being used for the Knit the Bridge project, the panels will be disassembled, and given to local shelters. Make a 7 x 9 inch square, or a size for the panels to be used for the bridge, learn a new stitch, and spend some time socializing while you do some charity work. You can specify which project your panel or piece will go to. No registration necessary. Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and Sunday.

Woven Prayer Flags: “Woven Voices ~ Messages from the Heart”

This make it and take it class is open Friday afternoon, all day Saturday and Sunday, is for all ages, and is FREE with your admission. It requires no knitting, crochet or weaving experience. This is an interactive global art project inspired by Tibetan prayer flags, Shinto paper prayers and messages, and the Buddhist concept of impermanence. This is a great way to use yarn stash and  create a  flag with a global message or a personal message. Make one, 2 or 3, give them as gifts or hang them in a garden, park or in your home. This is an open classroom format in the prefunction area. There is no reservation or registration necessary. The intention is to help spread positive energy and thoughts. We have been given kind permission to share this art project by Sarah D. Haskell.

Crocheted Prayer Shawl with Marge Connelly

This class is best suited for a person with intermediate level crochet skills that include: chain, single crochet, double crochet, treble crochet. Students will learn about Prayers Shawls and the ministry of loving everyone. They will learn how to crochet lace from both the written pattern and the chart provided in the book: Amazing Crochet Lace by Doris Chan. We will start the Prayer Shawl in class and see how the lovely results happen with simple stitches.

All class participant may either bring their own copy of  Amazing Crochet Lace by Doris Chan, or one will be provided for them. Smooth worsted weight washable yarn 500 yards approximately and a size I crochet hook are the materials that you will need to bring to the class.  It may be a good idea to bring a larger hook if you crochet tightly or a smaller hook if you are a very loose crocheter. No materials fee— free, however, donations will be accepted for the Mrs. Claus Charitable Club. If you are a newer crocheter, please bring a lighter color of yarn.  There are many lovely superwash wools and soft blended yarns that are washable. A plain color shows the lace better than variegated. Registration necessary, class size limited to 12.

Supplies Needed: Worsted weight yarn, smooth is best and light colored especially for beginners, 500 yards at least, crochet hook size I, but bring J and K as well to obtain gauge. A copy of the book: Amazing Crochet Lace by Doris Chan will be available to purchase from Marge for less than retail,15.00, payable to Mrs. Claus, to benefit a non profit organization. Purchasing the book is optional, it includes other prayer shawl patterns.

Materials Fee: None, patterns will be supplied by Marge, however, donations will be accepted for the Mrs. Claus Charitable Club.

Join our instructor/s for an introduction to Fimo clay beads and buttons. Now that you have purchased a kit that requires a unique button or you will be finishing a sweater that needs a special bead for a closure, learn how to make your own. All materials will be provided for you in the class; cutting tools, boards, clay, just bring yourself and your imagination (or a project that you need a special bead or button for.) You will have the opportunity to bake it on site or take it home in a plastic bag with instructions on baking. No experience necessary; for all levels and ages. Crochet an Adorable Duck! with Stacey Trock

Not only are stuffed animals cute and cuddly, they’re fantastic crochet projects because they don’t take long to make and they don’t need to fit anybody! Plus, once you know some basic techniques, you’ll be able to tackle almost any animal pattern that’s out there… what could be better? This class will cover selecting yarn and appropriate hook size, how to do a sorta-gauge swatch (no measuring required!), how to begin working in the round, a refresher on crochet pattern variations you may encounter, techniques for attaching pieces and a discussion on child-safety and tips for stuffing. We’ll be crocheting a super-adorable duck, which will teach you the variety of basic techniques you’ll need. By the end of this class, you’ll not only have a cutie nearly done… but you’ll be confidently trained in animal-making! With springtime just around the corner, this is a perfect project for those Easter baskets too! This class is for beginners and up. Registration required, this class is limited to 20.

Buttonholes with Bonnie Meanor

Finish your weekend with a must needed buttonhole class. Bonnie is an expert on finishing techniques and a well made buttonhole can make or break a garment. Bonnie will cover in class: “My favorite buttonhole.” She will teach horizontal and vertical buttonholes, and will cover Skips; crochet skips, knit skips, loops; crochet loops.  Registration necessary, class size limited to 12.

Recycling and re-purposing is popular among all ages and a great way to use what you have in your closet and from thrift stores. It is the latest rage and many items are being re-purposed and sold on Etsy. From coats, sweaters, handbags, skirts to a variety of  accessories. In this class, make some lovely flower pins or embellishments for a garment. These can also be worn in the hair. There is no experience needed for this class, some simple sewing skills; a perfect class for Mother and daughter or for the younger person interested in a learning a way to recycle. This would make a great party activity for girls. Students should be able to make 2-3 flowers during the class.  Registration necessary, class size limited to 20.

Supplies Needed: Please bring scissors.

Materials Fee: $8.00, payable to the instructor, for felted sweaters, bar pins, embroidery thread, buttons, beads and needles.

Stitch Pattern Samplers

All Levels, but may be best suited for beginners and above if you need a refresher. 2 sessions in the morning, 2 in the afternoon (Friday, Saturday & Sunday) each sampler class is ONE HOUR , there are 10 total offered all 3 days: $10.00 per sampler, 5 for $45.00 or all 10 for $90.00

The class format: Each sampler class session is one hour long. There are ten offered. You may take only one class sampler, 2, 3, or all 10. Do you want to move beyond stockinette and garter stitch? Do you find those huge stitch pattern books a little intimidating? Then this class is for you! We will introduce you to different patterns  and techniques that will add texture to your knitting. We will slip stitches, twist stitches and even drop them on purpose. Turn each pattern into a block for an afghan, or add what you have learned to your other knitting projects. Registration necessary, class sizes are limited to 20.

Sunday afternoon sampler classes:

1:30 – 2:30: Bruges Lace Basics (Crochet) with Marie Segares: Bruges Lace Crochet is experiencing a resurgence! This is a beautiful but simple way of making crochet lace suitable for accessories, garments and home décor. We will learn the basic recipe for a  Bruges lace strip that can be can be transformed into a scarf. $10.00 (New)

3:00 – 4:00: Needle Felting Basics with Amy Francisco: $10.00  Learn the basics of needle felting. Once you learn how, the sky is the limit. You can make 3 dimensional objects, embellish jackets, sweaters, jeans, and make gifts! Amy will provide you with a kit in the class which includes all the fiber, felting needle, pattern, step-by-step instructions with photos, and decorations for the project you make in class. The price for the kit is 6.00, payable to the teacher in class. (New)

Better than a Fashion Show———– a Revolving Trunk Show!

$10.00, can be used multiple times throughout the show.

This year we are pleased to offer something fresh and different for everyone! Instead of one fashion show to highlight all of the fabulous new patterns, designs and garments, this year we are offering a revolving trunk show to allow you to touch each garment, try it on, see and feel the drape of each item without rushing through a fashion show. The revolving trunk show will be hosted by the yarn companies that show their support each year and their yarn representatives.  Every hour, we’ll showcase a different yarn company and their garments. Garments will be shown from Candace Eisner Strick, Tahki Stacey Charles, Inc. ArtYarns, HBKY, Louet, Alpaca Yarn Company, Blue Heron, Stitch Sprouts, StevenBe, Be Sweet, Feza, Lantern Moon, Berroco, Skacel Collection and many more. The garments will stay on display through the entire show, but will be highlighted hourly as posted on a schedule (to follow). Come in once, or come in as many times as you’d like to see, feel and try the various garments form our sponsors and festival friends. Admission for entry ticket is: $10.00, which can be used throughout the show multiple times.

Yarn Representatives include Jon Veauthier, Fred Veauthier, Josie Baxter and others.

Book signings and autograph sessions will be scheduled with designer’s garments.
