Class Title: Japanese Shibori Sampler

Class Day/Time:  Sunday, 9:00 am to 12:00 noon

Class Description:

Learn the beautiful basics of Japanese Shibori and indigo fabric dyeing! Students will explore sewn Shibori techniques, as well as folded and clamped Shibori methods. Students will leave with a sampler of Shibori techniques ready for a quilt or other project, as well as a finished rayon circle scarf. This class is appropriate for complete beginners and those who may need a refresher on Shibori techniques. Please wear messy clothes or an over-shirt to protect your clothing!

Students must be able to thread a needle, and wrap rubber bands around folded and clamped fabric. Sometimes, indigo dyes can have a strong, organic smell. Those who are sensitive to scents should keep this in mind.

Level: All levels

Registration necessary, class size limited to 14

Supplies Needed: 

1.5 yards 100% cotton fabric (pre-washed WITHOUT fabric softener). Appropriate fabrics-

Cotton Sateen, Kona Cotton, light- and mid-weight quilting cotton.

Fabric scissors

Paper & Pencil to take notes.

Camera to document your process

Materials Fee: 

$20 per student, cash or check only, payable to teacher in class

Includes Rayon Circle Scarf, Needles, threads, safety equipment, dyes & chemicals, supplies to create shibori designs

Homework: None, but please know how to thread a needle : )

A 3.00 electronic administrative fee will be added for all online registration transactions.
