Class Title: Finishing Sweaters Can Be a Happy Ending

Teacher Name: Leslye Solomon

Class Length: 3 hours

Class Fee: $55.00

Class Day/Time: Saturday, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm

Class Description:

Finishing sweaters is too often a dreaded task.  Stop the clutter of unfinished projects and eliminate the sense of guilt as you begin the next.  With this hands-on and empowering class, learn the secrets to sweater finishing.  Learn the effects of laundering and wear on all fibers to achieve exactly what you expect from hand knit garments, as you are able to predict change. Practice special ways to block, neatly sew shoulders; pick up stitches at the neck; begin and sew side and sleeve seams: invisibly graft ribbing; install zippers, drop shoulders, and set-in sleeves; and invisibly weave tails. What a great feeling it is when finishing a sweater is as fun and interesting as knitting it.

Level: All levels

Registration necessary, class size limited to 30

Supplies Needed:

Aran weight wool in a light color and dark contrasting color.

Size 8 and 9 needles.

Bring large-eye, blunt, wool needle to use for sewing.

Materials Fee: none

Homework:

Aran weight, smooth, wool yarn.  Use 4.5mm (US 7) ndls for rib & 5.5mm (US 9) for St st. (ndl size not important – just make a nice fabric – not too tight, not too loose). Make 2 identical samples to practice on in class. Gauge not important for samples. Using smaller ndl, CO 21 sts leaving 20” tail remaining after casting on. Row 1: WS – p1, (k1, p1) to end. Row 2: RS – k1, (p1, k1) to end. Continue making k1, p1 ribbing for 15 rows ending with a WS row (ready to do RS row). Change to larger ndls and begin St st for 21 rows. (The knit side is the side with the knit sts at each edge of the ribbing; the purl side will have the purl sts at edge of the ribbing). Cut yarn leaving a 20” tail. Change to a contrasting color yarn and continue St st for 8 more rows. Do not bind off.  Place stitches on a holder.  Make another sample as the first.  These two samples will be used in class.   It is not necessary to bring the knitting needles with you to class.

A 3.00 electronic administrative fee will be added for all online registration transactions.
