The Knitted Plaid: A Color and Pattern Workshop with Franklin Habit
Class Title: The Knitted Plaid: A Color and Pattern Workshop
Teacher: Franklin Habit
Class Day/Time: Sunday 9:00 to 12:00 noon
Class Length: 3 hours
Class Fee: $55.00
If the prospect of mixing colors gives you the fidgets, but you’ve dreamt of putting together your own complex color schemes for projects, this class is for you. We’ll begin by learning a simple but strikingly effective method for knitting plaid fabric–a method that can even be used to recreate family or school tartans. Then we’ll use the framework of the plaid as the point of departure for a practical, hands-on lesson in color selection. You can learn to design your own color schemes–all it takes is a little knowledge, a little practice, and a little playfulness.
Pre-requisites: Fluency in the basic techniques of knitting.
Registration necessary, class size limited to 22
Yarn: Five to ten balls of any smooth (non-fuzzy) yarn in sport or worsted weight (for example: Cascade 220, Dale Baby Ull, Universal Yarns Deluxe Worsted) in different colors. Please note that partial balls are welcome! This is a great class for using up leftovers from stash. You’ll be mixing and matching with yarns brought by other students, so be prepared to share what you bring. One 16- or 24-inch circular needle, or one pair straight needles, in a size that will give you a firm gauge with typical worsted or sport weight yarn.
Notebook and pen or pencil for making notes.
It is also expected that students will have with them the usual notions basic to knitting: scissors, a selection of stitch markers, etc.
Materials Fee: None
Each student will receive a skein of Deluxe Worsted Yarn by Universal Yarns. Universal Yarns proudly supports Franklin’s class.
A 3.00 electronic administrative fee will be added for all online registration transactions.
An Admission ticket must be purchased to attend all classes
