Class Description:







Learn the beautiful basics of Japanese Shibori and indigo fabric dyeing! Students will explore Nui Shibori (sewn Shibori) and Itajime Shibori (folded and clamped) Shibori techniques that can be used separately or layered together. Students will get an overview of other dyeing techniques and how to create an indigo dye-bath. Everyone will leave with a finished sampler of fabrics that are perfect to use for a variety of future projects. All levels are invited to attend this class, however, some students with great arthritic conditions may have difficulty manipulating rubber bands. Students must also have basic hand sewing skills. It is recommended to wear an over-shirt or a smock for this class due to some potential messiness. For those with a sensitive nose, please be advised, indigo dye has a strong organic smell.

Registration necessary, class size limited to 14.

Supplies Needed: Paper and pencil for note taking and a smock or over sized shirt.

Materials Fee: $30.00, for complete kit which includes fabrics, design supplies to use to create Shibori (needles, waxed threads, wood pieces, rubber bands, and more) safety equipment and all dyes and chemicals will be provided. Materials fee payable to teacher in class.
