Class Day/Time:

Friday 12:30 to 3:30 pm

Class Length: 3 hours

Class Fee: $40.00

Class Description:

What do you conjure up in your mind when you hear these words —  unique fashions, altered couture, up-cycling, recycling, re-using or perhaps altering? In this class, we are going to take that outfit you love but have maybe outgrown. It happens to us all; maybe your waistline is a little thicker and your favorite skirt or pants don’t quite fit, you are wearing your dresses/skirts a bit longer, our breasts sag a bit and so do our behinds  : (

Don’t worry though, we can help you fix it, (not the breasts or back side) but the garments!  Styles have changed and so have we, but styles make a comeback and so can we!  In this class you will get some advice on several different ways to make that treasured  item of clothing into something new!  Cut it, paste it, sew it, embellish it, and turn it into a whole new garment! We’ll have bags of embellishments to share and lots of ideas to get you started. This will be an interactive class, we’ll ask for input from each student. We’ll have lots of samples displayed to give you some inspiration too. You’ll leave with many ideas on how to transform some of the long neglected garments in your closet. Students are expected to bring a favorite garment or 2 and a pair of good cutting scissors. No prior experience needed. Although sewing machines may not be needed for your garment transformation, some sewing machines will be available for use in classroom, and you are welcome to bring your own.

Registration necessary, class size limited to 15

Supplies Needed: A favorite “old” garment or 2 that no longer fits (can be store purchased) (sweaters, skirts, dresses, jackets, blouses) A pair of good cutting scissors, pins, sewing needles and color/s of thread that match your garment/s, a good attitude and imagination. Students are invited to bring a sewing machine to class, but not essential, hand stitching will be used to get you started. (If you bring a sewing machine, your machine must be in good working order)

If you are bringing your own machine, you may store it for no charge throughout the weekend at the designated festival coat check.

An assortment of Pfaff sewing machines will be provided by ThorntonCo.

Materials Fee:  Depending on what and how much a student uses, the materials fee may range from $5.00 – $10.00, payable to instructor in class.

Homework: None, other than to look through the closet and get out some garment/s that you want to transform. (handbags, lightweight jackets, skirts, dresses, blouses, sweaters: hand made or store purchased ok)

A 3.00 electronic administrative fee will be added for all online registration transactions.
